Call for the position of Editor

The Executive Committee of the MLA Languages, Literatures and Cultures Medieval Iberian forum now seeks applications for the position of editor for La corónica. The editorship of this journal, published by this MLA forum, is shared on a rotating basis among researchers in our sector of the profession.

Applicants should be established scholars with publishing and editing experience in both English and Spanish. Evidence of successful collaborative work is required. The editor will be responsible for reviewing submissions, choosing outside readers, offering editorial suggestions, assembling and sending suggestions to authors, inviting some submissions as well as undertaking other tasks related to the pre-publication phase of a scholarly journal and sending finished revisions for copy-editing. The editor will be expected to deliver final edited copy of each issue of the journal to Sheridan Press and to Project Muse in time for the publication of issues in January and June of each year.

In consultation with the editorial staff and the Executive Committee, the editor will plan La corónica-sponsored sessions at regional, national, and international conferences. The editor will consult with the Executive Committee of the LLC Medieval Iberian and with the managing editor to make any necessary changes to the membership of the editorial board of the journal and will report to LLC Medieval Iberian Executive Committee during the annual meeting of the Executive Committee at the Modern Languages Association Convention.

Ideally the new editor should be in a supportive department or program where the work of the journal may be shared with qualified colleagues and with graduate students as a mentored experience. The editor should expect an average of eight or more hours of pro bono work each week year-round, with fluctuations over the course of the year. Assurance of institutional support and release time for editorial duties will form part of the successful application portfolio. Applicants must hold membership in the MLA.
