About

Alba Lara Granero is a PhD candidate in Hispanic Studies at Brown University. Her dissertation, “Concierto Desconcierto: Percepción femenina y discurso de la salud en la Península Ibérica (ss. XV y XVI),” makes a feminist intervention in the cultural history of medicine by reconstructing women’s health discourses in the 15th and 16th-century Iberian Peninsula. By viewing ‘health’ as a language-game, following Wittgenstein, she explores an epistemological framework where perception, materiality, spirituality, and physiology are interwoven as mutually constitutive components of medical discourse. Her paper, “The Musical Diagnosis of María de Santo Domingo: An Interpretation within the Language Game of Harmony,” was published by Candela Review: Revista afro-trans-queer-feminista-descolonial in October 2023.

She has presented her work at several conferences, including the International Medieval Congress at the University of Leeds, the Sewanee Medieval Colloquium, and the Forum for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Ireland.

Her research interests encompass Medieval and Early Modern Iberian Literatures and Cultures, Medical and Environmental Humanities, Disability Studies, and Sensory Studies.
