La corónica is pleased to announce

The Nancy F. Marino Prize
for Best Essay in Hispanomedieval Studies

at the International Congress on Medieval Studies at Kalamazoo.

The Nancy F. Marino Prize honors the contribution of Professor Marino to the profession, in particular her devotion and dedication to the many colleagues and students in Hispanomedieval Studies she mentored and inspired in her role as a founder of IMANA and as facilitator for the field each year at the International Congress on Medieval Studies at Kalamazoo.

The Marino Prize recognizes excellent Hispanomedieval scholarship in an essay of outstanding quality written by a graduate student or early career scholar and accepted for the upcoming annual International Congress on Medieval Studies at Kalamazoo.

The winning paper is determined by a panel of judges, selected annually by La corónica.

The winner will receive:

-$1,000 cash prize

– Recognition at the annual congress at Kalamazoo and on La corónica Commons

-An invitation to expand the winning paper and submit it for consideration for publication in La corónica (http://www.lacorónica.org), a refereed journal published every spring and fall by the MLA Forum for Medieval Iberian Literatures, Languages, and Cultures and devoted to Hispanomedievalism in its broadest sense.

Eligibility:
-All early career scholars (who have received their PhDs in the last 4 years)

-Any student enrolled in an MA or PhD program in academic year 2023-2024

-Papers may address any topic in Hispanomedievalism.

-Submitted papers must be accepted and presented at the International Congress on Medieval Studies at Kalamazoo.

Papers must be received by 15 April 2024.

Please note:

-Papers should be in the form actually to be delivered at Kalamazoo (not a longer essay on which the conference paper is based).

-Submissions should include a cover page with the following information: title of the paper, name, academic affiliation, and email address.

-Please do not submit a handout or Powerpoint. All quotations should be included in the body of the paper and a Works Cited list provided at the end.

-While formatting changes, correction of typos, and the addition of a Works Cited page are acceptable, changes to the substance of the argument are not.
