“A Seat at the Table” (roundtable) at MLA 2026 in Toronto, Canada.

We invite proposals for a roundtable exploring food and foodways in the global Middle Ages, exploring families and feasting and how the politics of food creates in-groups and out-groups in the Global Middle Ages.

RESPONDING TO CALLS FOR PAPERS

  • Review the session guidelines for the MLA convention before responding to calls for papers.
  • Send submissions to the session organizer whose name and email address are included in the listing; do not send them to the MLA.
  • Include any audiovisual equipment or accessibility needs for your presentation when you respond to a call for papers.
  • If you are invited to participate in a 2027 session, you must be an MLA member by 7 April 2026.
  • All session participants must register for the convention.
  • An MLA member may participate (e.g., by serving as a speaker, presider, or respondent) only twice at a convention.
  • Working groups extend over more than one session, so participants in a working group are not able to participate in any other sessions.
  • Review the Convention Participant FAQs and Access Guidelines. All session participants are expected to provide accessible copies of their presentations in advance to facilitate comprehension and participation for all attendees. Your session organizer may create an MLA Commons page or other secure site for this purpose.

Please consider participating and letting anyone you know who would be interested!

Contact Michelle Hamilton (ha******@*mn.edu) by 24 July if interested.
